After countless delays, the subway entrance has opened at Emerald Park.
For the past 13 years, I’ve led a group of amazing volunteer neighbours to host West Lansing’s much-loved Canada Day BBQ in the park and the fireworks. I look forward to coordinating these events each year because I know how much it means to connecting everyone in our community. This year is particularly important because we are celebrating 150 years!!!
This year travel plans with family will keep me out of town on Canada Day, so I’m writing to you today to find two people to lead these two events. One for the Canada Day BBQ in the afternoon and the other for the Fireworks at night.
The good news is that these two events are well-oiled machines in themselves! I can still do much of the upfront coordination including promoting and obtaining sponsorships. That means that the new coordinators will primarily need to step up on June 30 and July 1 to ensure the events run smoothly.
BBQ duties will include coordinating set up and tear down and pick up of supplies. We have great luck with neighbour volunteers helping at the event each year.
Fireworks duties is primarily collecting money from the community (through the two schools, Daycares & Cyberkids) and setting up / tear down.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in taking on, please contact me ASAP and I would be happy to provide more details. The spirit of our neighbourhood relies on great volunteers who take initiative. Please consider how much your help would be appreciated.
I speak from experience when I say this is an incredibly rewarding opportunity!
